Today I have experienced how to install FreeBSD from a USB device - quite simple so you can do it yourself :-)

First, initialize the USB solid state disk with bsdlabel(8):

bsdlabel -wB /dev/da0

Then, initialize a file system:

newfs -O1 /dev/da0a

Third, copy CDROM’s /boot to it.

And you can now boot from the USB disk.

I have set up a mirror for the major BSD software, especially DragonFly/Free/Open/NetBSD and KAME at my personal server, tarsier.delphij.net for about two weeks. Today I have annouced that on kernel@dfly and Liam Foy has added it to the official download list.

Some cvsweb and other related site is ongoing. I’m very pleased that I can support BSD related software, no matter joining their development, or providing mirrors for wider spread.

I’ve finally decided to move out from cnftp as I can’t figure out when, what and why its configuration that can influence my site keeps changed from time to time. Everything pulled out, and the httpd configuration has been removed to reflect this without misleading people who has decent DNS records cached in their DNS mirrors.

Still don’t know why a simple upgrade will cause GB2312 to represent in UTF8 errornously. Maybe when I have time, but not now.

FreeBSD Apache2 port has been RCng’ifyed since 2.0.49_2. This will unify the behavior of ports more.

I’m still working on deploying the new beastie.frontfree.net (builder.frontfree.net at present). Because a bug(?) in FreeBSD kernel I have temporary disabled HTT on the box.
