Ports

Today Joe Marcus Clarke [marcus@, a member of portmgr@] has announced that the port freeze for FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE has been released. Now FreeBSD ports has been tagged as RELEASE_4_10_0.

TERAMOTO Masahiro kindly gave maintainership of security/clamav to Rob Evers, the maintainer of the clamav-devel port.

Yesterday I have talked with Max Laier about the pf accessories, say, the spamd. He explained me why it is kept in ports/ and not the base system - this is to keep the base system small, and I completely agree this.

I finally understood what he want, according to his post today:

" Hey, here’s an idea… using the VFS wrapper idea our
‘ports’ system could create a namespace that makes everything
appear to be preinstalled. So instead of CDing somewhere and
typing make, or running an apt-get type of utility, you would
simply run the program you want to run and our package manager
would download and install it on the fly."

Several commits must be done on FreeBSDChina’s doc tree,
Many commits must be done in the local Frontfree tree,
And the GridDistribute,
as well as mathmetics.

When is the end, and when is the start?
What will happen, if I want to have a rest?
While this is something to be similiar with what happend in the past,
I am supposed to have some busy days…

I have submitted a updated port of awstat this morning. Unfortunatelly, the maintainer’s e-mail address bounced.
